2. ALS from Gerald Hugh Tyrwhitt-Wilson, Lord Berners, 9th Baron: "Dear Lady Leslie, I am very distressed to hear about the elephant and I can't think how it can have got loose as I took a lot of trouble to see that it was properly packed. I have had uncommon bad luck with both my elephants. Lady Colefax asked me to send her the other one...She put it in her shop window...and then sent it back very much the worse for wear. But then I have always said that Lady Colefax is no lady. Anyhow I am building a public house in Faringdon and am calling it "The Elephant and Coalbox" to commemorate her infamy."
